Reminders
I hope your child has a lovely year in 2nd Class. Just some points to note at the start of the year.

Miss Hallinan.
- If your child is absent you must send in a covering note to me so I can keep it on record or phone the office to let the secretary know. This can also be submitted through Aladdin.
- Grow in Love Programme is based on the Catholic Preschool and Primary Religions Education Curriculum for Ireland. The co-operation between home, parish and school is essential in encouraging young children in coming to know who they are and whom they belong. Once a week your child will have work to complete at home (normally a Thursday night) which involves a piece of work, a prayer and a topic to chat about. Please help your child to complete this. This can be found in the Grow in Love children’s workbook. Children have a copy of the prayers in their homework folder. Please encourage them to say some of these each night.
- In accordance with our school policy Birthday Invitations are only to be given out as follows: All the class are invited or for a boy’s birthday all the boys in the class invited, for a girl’s birthday all the girls in the class are invited. If you are only inviting a select few, you must arrange this outside school time yourself.
- Children will need slippers and a slipper bag. Please send in as soon as possible.
- Fresh water will be available in the classroom. Please send in a plastic bottle/plastic cup if your child would like to drink the water.
- You child’s name should clearly marked on the inside of their school jumpers.
- Should your child have to leave school early please send in a note with your child (given in the morning or report this to the office). You must wear a facemask and collect your child at the office, not from the classroom.
- School starts at 9.20am. Children are expected to be on time.
Social Media/Blogs
- We have a school blog available on www.culleensballina.scoilnet.ie/blog or use Google to search for Culleens. This blog is regularly updated so please keep an eye on it. Also check the calendar section for events that are happening in the school.
- We also will have a class blog which can be found through a link on our school blog under “class projects” or on the link http://misshallinanculleens.weebly.com/. Please keep an eye for information/videos/photos of class work.
- My email address is [email protected]. You might need this to email photos, work etc during the year.
- You can also follow our class on Twitter on @2ndculleens.
- SeeSaw: I’m sure you all got very familiar with Seesaw last year for remote learning. Homework will be assigned to Seesaw once a week so children and parents remain familiar with the app. Should schools close due to lockdown, we will continue learning through Seesaw and our class blog (hopefully this will not happen!). Homework may include a video response to an activity, a written response, an audio response.
The Seesaw account for homework/remote learning will be private to you and your family only. I will continue on the same Seesaw account as used by Miss Duffy last year so your child’s work will still be visible. It is nice to see a big portfolio of work. You may continue to add work to Seesaw throughout the year if you wish.
You might have noticed a new feature on Seesaw this year called “publish item to blog”. This looks like a globe icon. This is the space where children can share their work to the class so other children can see it.
The Seesaw activities are only shared between the teacher and your child. The journal posts are also private between teacher and your child. This is accessed with the home learning code which was provided at the beginning of the year.
However from time to time your child may wish to share something to the class e.g. a photo, a poem, a story they have written etc. For this they can use the “blog” button once they have created their post. Once the press the blog icon their post goes to the blog but also remains in their journal too.
The class teacher will approve posts before they appear on the Seesaw blog. The children are also able to comment (either written or voice recorded messages) on their friend’s work/images. Again this is moderated by the class teacher before they are published.
I hope both you and your child enjoy this new feature. If you have any questions please let me know.
- Write Reader: A note will follow on this when the children are familiar with the app.
- Rewards: In the past I have used a ticket system for the children for behaviour. This year to comply with Covid regulations we will use a digital behaviour chart. Children will be encouraged students for skills/behaviour — whether it's working hard, being kind, helping others or something else. Children will gain digital points and can use these points in exchange for a reward e.g. a prize from the prize box, homework passes, sweets etc.
- If you need to inform me about your child you can - Send in a note, Email me – [email protected] or arrange a meeting with me through the office or phone the office on 096 - 22084
