This week in our Alive O we were learning about bread. Some of us brought in bread wrappers. Some of us had lovely bread for lunch too. We thank you God for bread. We love the smell of bread as it is being toasted.

Today we looked at this commercial for helping to end bullying. Today we were talking about being responsible, safe and respectful. The Golden Rule is treat others the way you would like to be treated. Have a look at this video for the Be Responsible song. We are really enjoying food dudes in school. So far we have tasted:
To celebrate the Chinese New Year we had a colouring competition. Here are the winners with their Chinese money wallets.
Today we were talking and learning about the importance of kindness as part of our anti-bulling campaign. We looked at some kindness videos and played a kindness board game. We learned that a simple act of kindness creates an endless ripple. What can you do to show kindness? You could smile, offer to help, share your colours, say thank you, lend your pencil. Being kind costs nothing. Remember if you want a friend you must be a friend. Kindness Rhyme for KidsToday we looked at this video and teacher asked us questions about it after. The green robot said that kindness is what we all should try for. We should share kindness and help others to learn it too. We started learning about time today. We loved this catchy song to revise the days of the week. Sing along. There is also a song to revise the months of year.
Have you seen our Christmas Dance Video?
As Valentine's day is approaching, we sang this funny song about Toe Knee Chestnut. We are also reading some poems - Tickling and Kisses. On Friday we will make some nice Valentine's Art. This week we have been learning all about length. We used lots of different materials to measure e.g lollipop sticks, crayons, books, cubes, spans (hands) and strides. We also learned all about a metre. A metre is 100cm. We learned that 1cm is about the size of our baby finger. We looked at objects that were less than, about the same as or greater than 1 metre. We used a metre ribbon to do this. We also had a metre stick. Today we looked at a trundle wheel which makes a click sound every time it reads a metre. We all had a go with it on the yard today. We estimated how many metres in length and width the basketball court was. We got 26 metres for the length and 14 metres for the width. We also talked about using length all around is e.g. driving a car, putting a floor in a classroom, building the correct size home for an animal etc.
We created a Photostory on the theme of An Aimsir. Some of us worked alone, some of us worked in pairs and some in groups of three. We drew a picture to show the weather and practiced our lines. Our pictures were scanned in and arranged on the Photostory. We used a small microphone to record our voices. Have a look.
An Aimsir 2016 from Culleens NS on Vimeo. Today we learned a Caribbean song called "Mango Walk". When mangos are picked they are laid out in rows of eleven and it is easy to sneak along the side and steal the mangos at the edge - number eleven. Have a listen to this version of Mango Walk. We also tasted some mango which was delicious. |
