Here is Miss Hallinan's pet cat. His name is Georgie. He is a tom cat. He likes to sleep during the day and hunt a night. He drinks water and eats dried food.
World Animal Day is on Sunday 4th October. Children are asked to bring in a picture of their pets or you can email them to [email protected]. We will be learning how to care for your pets. If you don't have a pet, don't worry you can think of your dream pet and how you would look after it.

We love to sing this song at the end of the day while we are tidying up. Today in science we looked at forces and how objects move down a ramp. We tested the following objects in groups of 4 - small ball, paper clip, rubber, marble, toy car and crayon. We discovered that the objects with curved sides rolled. Some objects slid and others did neither. W all agreed that the marble rolled the fastest. We also discovered that the steeper the ramp the more the marble rolled.
On Friday we did some digital art and some painting. One half of the class painted self portraits and the other class worked on an app called Glow Draw. We swapped over then.
We only have one more gymnastics class left. Today we were working on acrobatic gymnastics. It was hard to balance but it was good fun.
Today we revised the "ck" sound. We listened to the Jolly Phonics song, looked at Geraldine Giraffe and did a written activity in our Skills Book. We are learning to add numbers up to 15. We looked at adding two numbers and then added three numbers. Here is an example of some our our work. More AdditionWe learned that it doesn't matter which way you write down the sum you get the same answer as long as you use the same numbers. We came up with different number combinations.
For the next 2 weeks we will be exploring the theme of transport. Today we were learning about the bicycle. We looked at this video first. A 6th class pupil came into our classroom with his bike and to help us learn our new words like handlebars, pedals, chain, brakes, saddle, wheels, sprocket (a sprocket helps the bicycle chain go around and around). Thank you. Today we were talking about crossing the road safely. Here is the Safe Cross Code dance from the RSA (Road Safety Authority). Remember: 1. Look for a safe place. 2. Don't hurry, stop and wait. 3. Look all around and listen before you cross the road Remember: 4. Let all the traffic pass you. 5. Then walking straight across you, 6. Keep watching That's the Safe Cross Code. Today we looked at the "ou" sound. We revised the "ou" Jolly Phonics song and also we looked at a video of Geraldine Giraffe. Geraldine finds things around the house that have the correct sound. We used some "ou" words in our workbook today e.g. out, outside, shout, house, cloud, mouth. In History we were talking about our earliest memories. Some of us brought in special things that we had when we were babies. Some children also remembered to bring in pictures of when they were a baby and a toddler. We cut pictures out from magazines/newspapers and stuck them to the correct poster - baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult or elderly. Here are some children who brought in their special baby item.
Today as part of our mental maths we used a Target Board. Our target number was 10. We had to think of lots of ways to make 10 only using the numbers on the board. We came up with lots of different ways. Our board was nearly fully. Some of us thought of adding 2 numbers, others thought of 3 and some of us thought of 4 numbers. Some of us thought of subtracting numbers and some of us thought of adding and subtracting numbers in the same sum.
There will be a staff meeting on Monday 14th of September. Children will finish school earlier that day. Children who normally go home on the bus will leave at 2.00pm. All other children can be collected at 2.30pm.
Last week we played some Bingo games to revise some of the words we did in Senior Infants. We worked in pairs first to read the words to each other. One person was A and the other person was B. Then we used a highlighter to mark our words when teacher called them out so we could see them clearly. It was great fun.
