We did lots of super Halloween experiments.
Magic Balloon - We blew up a balloon using a bottle water and an effervescent tablet. Density Experiment - We looked at different liquids and created a potion jar. We used treacle, golden syrup, water mixed with some red food colouirng and some oil. We could see the way each liquid settled. It looked like a potion. Spooky Messages - We drew a picture using using cotton buds, baking soda and water. Then we painted over it using turmeric mixed with rubbing alcohol (the best one for this is very liquidly hand sanitiser - the gel will work but it's not as good. Warning - turmeric will stain everything so wear gloves and protect surfaces. Witch's Potion - We used baking soda and food colouring in a small container. When vinegar was added it made a big fizz! We loved this and must have done it 6 times. Congratulations to our class Halloween Colouring Competition winners. We have also entered the Folens Halloween Colouring competition to win a set of Christmas annuals for our class. If your not in you can't win!
We had some amazing Maths Eyes entries on Seesaw and emails. All children received a prize for their entry. Ms O'Loughlin our Maths co-ordinator had the difficult task of choosing the overall winners. Congratulations.
We sampled some báirín breac - barmbrack is a traditional sweetened sweet bread. It is known as báirín breac or speckled loaf due to the way it is speckled with raisins.
Teacher asked use a question - "Ar Mhaith Leat Báirin Breac"? If we did we said "Ba mhaith liom Báirin Breac". If we didn't we said "Níor mhaith liom báirín breac". We had two children who found the ring. Fuair Sophie agus Naomie an fáinne. We had great fun doing our Maths Stations last week. We worked on 4 stations - addition to 20 using lots of different strategies e.g. number bonds to 10, doubling, adding the bigger number first, counting on. We also worked on money. We identified the coins from 1c to €2 - put them in order of value, making the correct amount of money for our purses and shopping - getting change from 20c. We used the hundred square to help us. We also worked on Maths Skills Builder App to practice lots of different skills and finally we worked on ordering numbers from 1-20 - what comes before and after.
We had a very special guest to mark World Animal Day 2023. Samuel Coleman, Tobias' Dad brought in Tobias' pet pigeon Tom.
Tom is a five month old giant pigeon. The breed is called Hungarian Giant originating from Hungary. Tom's parents are from Poland. Tobias has had his pigeon since it was a chick and hopefully Tom will live for 16 years about the same as a dog. We all loved Tom. All children have their individual photo on their Seesaw Profile. Here are a few extra photos.
We are working on report writing in 1st Class. We brainstormed what happens in each season and put together an oral report. We hope you enjoy it.
