Today we began exploring the Chinese New Year. We started by listening to a Chinese song - Rainbow Girl. In our literacy stations today some of use read a story called "Once Upon a Time in China". This was the story about the Willow Pattern plate. Some of us have grannies who have the Willow Pattern pottery at home. Now we know the story. After lunch today we learned some facts about China and took a Google Earth view of the Great Wall of China. We will continue to look at more facts from China over the next couple of weeks. We also listened to a The Chinese Zodiac Story. This story told us how the 12 animals were selected for the Chinese New Year. We all felt sorry for the cat! You can read it at home on the following website - https://www.topmarks.co.uk/ChineseNewYear/ZodiacStory.aspx. We found out that some of us were born in the year of the Tiger. What animal represents you? Click here. We are looking forward to learning more during the week.
Have a look at a Dragon Dance - www.topmarks.co.uk/ChineseNewYear/DragonDance.aspx Enjoying the Chinese New Year celebrations with our lanterns and money wallets. We had great fun today learning about Internet Safety. We looked at a new resource called HTML Heros which teaches us all about the internet and being safe. We completed lesson 1 today and did a big wordseach to find lots of internet words. We learned there are both positive and negatives aspects to the internet. We then got our wristbands and got a photo using the Green Screen with the HTML Heros as our background. After lunch we did a colouring competition to enter for Safer Internet Day. You can learn lots about internet safety on our school blog - culleensballina.scoilnet.ie/blog/internet-safety/.
