We are learning about time. We learned that there are 60 seconds in 1 minute. We completed some one minute challenges. In these pictures we are making the tallest tower we can using cubes for 1 minute.
We were working hard on length in maths this week. We had great fun estimating the length and width of our tables using lollipop sticks, cubes, spans and yes - feet. We then looked at the metre stick and found lots of objects in our class which were longer than, about the same as and less than 1 metre. 1 metre is 100cm.
We had some amazing Maths Eyes entries on Seesaw and emails. All children received a prize for their entry. Ms O'Loughlin our Maths co-ordinator had the difficult task of choosing the overall winners. Congratulations.
We had great fun doing our Maths Stations last week. We worked on 4 stations - addition to 20 using lots of different strategies e.g. number bonds to 10, doubling, adding the bigger number first, counting on. We also worked on money. We identified the coins from 1c to €2 - put them in order of value, making the correct amount of money for our purses and shopping - getting change from 20c. We used the hundred square to help us. We also worked on Maths Skills Builder App to practice lots of different skills and finally we worked on ordering numbers from 1-20 - what comes before and after.
1st Class are working really hard on their maths concepts. We are learning to make number bonds to ten using our tens frames, adding with 0, number problems, adding two and three numbers, estimating the amount of marbles in the jar.
We worked hard on our money last month - calculating change from €1 and €2, converting money from euro to cent and cent to euro. exchanging money for less coins. We used Maths Skill Builder App to practice lots of maths skills and played the money game on the iPads in another station - https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/toy-shop-money/eur
You can play this game at home too. Just make sure to click on European flag to play the game in Euro. We did lots of exciting maths activities during Maths Week. Here are some pictures from our maths trail. We had lots of tasks to complete e.g. finding 2D and 3D shapes, counting the number of cars in the car park and then how many wheels they all had! We also presented our photos from our 2D and 3D shape hunt to the class by mirroring the photos from the iPad we used in pairs to the whiteboard.
We are working hard on our doubles in maths. You can sing along at home with the Doubles Rap!
Last Thursday and Friday we used the Bee Bots to work on our spatial awareness. We worked in small groups to programme the Bee Bot to move left, right, forward and backwards.
We also used the Bee Bot app on the iPads. Bee Bot app is a coding app which introduces kids to coding and programming. Bee Bot game is free to download for iOS (iPhone and iPad) devices and suitable for children 7-11. Bee-Bot app is a digital version of the Bee-Bot programmable floor robot. Last week in maths we looked at symmetry. Here are some of our symmetrical picture made with black card and tissue paper.
We had a great week of maths this week for Maths week 2021. We completed a maths challenge each night for homework and got a small prize the next day. We estimated marbles in a container.
On Seesaw we put on our Maths Eyes and spotted some items in our homes which are linked to maths. We had maths stations everyday - place value game, money game, timing our tables, iPad clocks, Maths Skills Builder on the iPad and a problem solving station. We played the game "Pig" which was a big hit - https://www.mathsweek.ie/2021/games/pig.html We did a maths quiz today with four rounds. |
