We had a great week of maths this week for Maths week 2021. We completed a maths challenge each night for homework and got a small prize the next day. We estimated marbles in a container.
On Seesaw we put on our Maths Eyes and spotted some items in our homes which are linked to maths. We had maths stations everyday - place value game, money game, timing our tables, iPad clocks, Maths Skills Builder on the iPad and a problem solving station. We played the game "Pig" which was a big hit - https://www.mathsweek.ie/2021/games/pig.html We did a maths quiz today with four rounds. We went on our nature walk today in Belleek Woods. We met our tree expert and guide Cynthia at the duck pond. She showed us lots of different leaves and fruit from the trees. We then walked around and identified the different types of trees. It was a great trip.
Miss Judge made a beautiful marble cake for the class. It reminded us of the marbling art activity we did last week.
A marble cake is a cake with a streaked appearance achieved by very lightly blending light and dark batter. It can be a mixture of vanilla and chocolate cake. Today we started our Anti-bullying campaign lessons. We looked at this video and discussed it afterwards. All of the anti-bulling lessons and weaving well-being lessons will be available on the "Anti-Bullying/Weaving Well-Being page - https://misshallinanculleens.weebly.com/anti-bullyingweaving-well-being.htmlmisshallinanculleens.weebly.com/anti-bullyingweaving-well-being.html In this video Big Bird is delighted to get an invitation for The Good Birds Club, but a bully pigeon makes fun of him and ridicules his looks. Remember it is good to be happy with the way you are. This week teacher read us the story "The Dot" written by Peter Reynolds. We then looked at a video of the author explaining why he wrote the story. We also looked at some artists who use a dot technique in their art. We then created our own dot print using toilet rolls and other circular printing materials. We used cotton buds to create another dot. Stay tuned for final pieces in the next few days. |
