We sampled some báirín breac - barmbrack is a traditional sweetened sweet bread. It is known as báirín breac or speckled loaf due to the way it is speckled with raisins.
Teacher asked use a question - "Ar Mhaith Leat Báirin Breac"? If we did we said "Ba mhaith liom Báirin Breac". If we didn't we said "Níor mhaith liom báirín breac". We had two children who found the ring. Fuair Sophie agus Naomie an fáinne.
This week and next week, we will be exploring the theme of winter. We read about the "Big Snow of 1947" which fascinated us already with tales of the blizzard in Ireland.

We also listened to a song called "Do the Funky Penguin" by Rufus Thomas. We then learned the "Pengin Dance". It was great fun. We will be learning lots more next week. Friday 17th was Culture Night and Laureate na nÓg Áine Ní Ghlinn and the Arts Council produced a fun interactive event especially for primary schools.
We took part yesterday. We had to listen to a 28 minute story told by Laureate na nÓg Áine Ní Ghlinn and create a drawing with help from illustrator Tarsila Krüse. The link will remain live until Sunday so you can have another go at home - https://culturenight.ie/draw-along-with-laureate-na-nog/ We really enjoyed it. Click on the video to hear a recording of the Irish Feis poems. We have started to learn the song Beidh Aonach Amárach. Here is nice video to go with the song. If you would like to enter the Irish Feis you need to bring in the €4 by Friday 18th of February. Today we listened to teacher read us a story in Irish called an Bogha Báistí (The rainbow) from a big book. We also got to look at a story from TG4. Cúla 4 is the section for children. There are lots of programmes you can watch as Gaeilge (in the Irish language). Today we listened to a story from Scéal an Lae (Story of the Day). We listened to the story Tá Eagla ar an Bhéar. Even though we didn't understand every word we used the pictures to help us understand. We will make another photostory at the end of the week on our theme of clothes - Éadaí.
We created a Photostory on the theme of An Aimsir. Some of us worked alone, some of us worked in pairs and some in groups of three. We drew a picture to show the weather and practiced our lines. Our pictures were scanned in and arranged on the Photostory. We used a small microphone to record our voices. Have a look.
An Aimsir 2016 from Culleens NS on Vimeo. In Irish today we were writing labels on pumpkins - súile, srón, béal. After we designed our own pumpkins. If you would like to do the same this is the link - http://www.abcya.com/make_a_pumpkin.htm
