ShrinkiesHow cool are these Christmas Shrinkies? How to Make: You need special Shrinkie plastic paper. Using permanent markers, decorate shapes and designs on the plastic. Cut out the plastic, with the knowledge that it will shrink down to about 1/3 it's original size. Punch a hole in your design before baking Leave in a hot oven for a couple of minutes. Add some string as decorations. 3D SantaAngelsOn Wednesday the children dressed up in green. The children in the school donated €640 to the Red Cross appeal for Ukraine. To help us with our reading fluency we read the script of "The Story of the Zodiac". According to myths. the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac were selected through a race through organised by the Jade Emperero - the ruler of China. This race is meant to create a time measurement for the people. There could only be twelve winners and in order to win, the animals had to cross a rapid current river and reach the finish line on the shore.

The Chinese New Year begins on the 1st of February this year and they will celebrate the Year of the Tiger. The Chinese zodiac follows a twelve year cycle, each of the years being named after an animal. The Chinese believe that people born in a particular year take on the characteristics of the animal associated with that year. Most of our class were born in the year of the snake and some were born in the year of the horse. It is said that the "animal hides in your heart". To find out what year you were born in click here 15 days after the New Year festivities is the Lantern Festival. Did you know that during the Lantern Festival, lantern owners often place riddles on the lanterns? If you guess the riddle correctly you can win a prize. We are solving riddles at school and on Seesaw too for a small prize. We made some lanterns and money wallets. Red and gold are lucky Chinese colours. We also did some colouring about the Year of the Tiger and made a door hanger with a tiger. We also had a lovely treat of prawn crackers from Abbie. Next week we will learn more facts about China. We played the Chinese Dragon Game which is an ordering and sequencing numbers game based on the Chinese New Year dragon theme - Click here to play. We also had a lovely Chinese stirfry with chicken, vegetables and noodles. Thank you to Denise, Charlie's Mum for preparing them. They were delicious. We had great fun learning about the Chinese New Year - The Year of the Rat. We sampled a stir-fry with noodles, made Chinese money wallets and got suprise coins in them, we made lanterns and rat pictures too.
Today we did a magic skittles experiment. We worked in groups of three and two groups of two, to arrange our skittles into a pattern. Have a look at the photos. Miss Hallinan then poured luke warm water in the middle of the plate and here's what happened. We love the colours.
Today we used the website abcya to create pumpkins. You can access the site here. We used our new netbooks. They look really cool. We used paint to add our names to them.
