1st Class are the lucky class in the school to start gymnastics lessons! We will have classes on a Wednesday for 5 weeks in Nadia Gym.
This week and next week, we will be exploring the theme of winter. We read about the "Big Snow of 1947" which fascinated us already with tales of the blizzard in Ireland.
We listened to our Irish story - Ag Súgradh sa Sneachta, practivied our "Sciorr an Mhuc" poem, painted our winter scene and made a little figure-skaters in art. We also listened to a song called "Do the Funky Penguin" by Rufus Thomas. We then learned the "Pengin Dance". It was great fun. We will be learning lots more next week.
Today we had a lovely treat with hot food. After lunch we watched our Sport's Day video with 1st Class and then we had our prize-giving for it. It was a great evening.
We had our last hurling training on Tuesday. We divided into 4 teams and played a ground hurling match. It was great fun and a good way to practice our skills from the last few weeks. Thank you to Adrian Hession the Coaching Development Officer at GAA.
We had great fun on Tuesday learning some more hurling skills with coach Adrian Hession. Check it out!
We are keeping very active these few days. We are doing the 10@10 exercises with the Senior classes every morning. This afternoon we had our first hurling skills training with coach Adrian Hession. It was great fun.
We had great fun last week using movement dice. We worked in small groups, rolled the dice and completed the exercise. We then had a second dice with directions. We then linked the two dice - movement with the directions. It was great fun.
Thank you to Miss Gordon our student teacher who was with us for 3 weeks. Miss Gordon taught the children dance in PE. This is one of their amazing dances.
