We used the app "Faces iMake" to make a face using different objects. They came out really well.

We are really enjoying Digital Art week. We are using a different website or app everyday for the week. The children are learning so many new skills - turn taking, capturing a QR Code. taking screen shots, cropping a picture and adding their name digitally using Markup. For our first digital art lesson we used a site called Scrap Colouring - http://scrapcoloring.com/texts/coloring-pages Our next site was from https://www.jacksonpollock.org/Stay tuned for more...Saturday January 10th marked the beginning of the Chinese New Year - The Year of the Dragon.
We made some paper lanterns, made a money wallet and made a dragon. We sang the Chinese New Year Song - Gun Hay Fat Choy. Our classroom is a sea of red and yellow. Congratulations to our class Halloween Colouring Competition winners. We have also entered the Folens Halloween Colouring competition to win a set of Christmas annuals for our class. If your not in you can't win!
Friday 15th of September was International Dot Day. We made some lovely dot prints. We also listened to the story called "The Dot" by Peter H Reynolds. Teacher then gave us a picture of a dot. We used an app called "Quiver" and scanned in the QR code on the school iPads. This allowed us to bring our dot to life - from a 2D version to a 3D version. Our dots were so cool. We learned how to "AirDrop" our creation to teacher's iPad. We also worked on our fine motor skills by creating a dotty picture using stickers. We used dot pens to create lovely dotty pictures. Our entrance area was a sea of dots. The children made some lovely jars with ten things the love about their Mum/Mummy/Mammy/Mom/Amma for Mother's Day. Check out your Seesaw journal for a photo on your own.
Today is Safer Internet Day and throughout this week we will be learning about being safe online. We got our wristbands, started colouring Ruby and Archie - The HTML Heroes for the colouring competition. We also brought home a book to give to our parents on a Safer Internet. For homework on Friday we are going to design a superhero emojis and think about a rule for technology in our homes. Here are two nice videos to get you thinking.
We had a great day on Wednesday 1st of February celebrating our first spring Feast - the Feast of Saint Brigid. Thank you to 6th class who helped 2nd class make the crosses.
This week and next week, we will be exploring the theme of winter. We read about the "Big Snow of 1947" which fascinated us already with tales of the blizzard in Ireland.
We listened to our Irish story - Ag Súgradh sa Sneachta, practivied our "Sciorr an Mhuc" poem, painted our winter scene and made a little figure-skaters in art. We also listened to a song called "Do the Funky Penguin" by Rufus Thomas. We then learned the "Pengin Dance". It was great fun. We will be learning lots more next week. We worked on the explanation genre in English in September. We read instructions on how marbling works and how papier mache works. We had to try it out to get the full picture!
How nice are these scrap colouring names which we used to stick on our book boxes. Well done Digital Artists!
