This Halloween why not try to learn some touch typing. When you become good you can write faster than using your pencil. Dance Mat Touch Typing is a fun way to learn touch typing. There are four levels to play, each divided into three stages. You start by learning the home row keys. Each stage builds on previous lessons, introducing new letters as you progress. You’ll soon be touch typing like an expert! At the end of each level you can test your typing speed and get a fun reward. Click on the link to begin. http://www.bbc.co.uk/guides/z3c6tfr#zgkpn39 |

In Irish today we were writing labels on pumpkins - súile, srón, béal. After we designed our own pumpkins. If you would like to do the same this is the link - http://www.abcya.com/make_a_pumpkin.htm
We have been learning lots of Halloween songs. Two of our favourites are Winnie the Witch and Hubble Bubble. We made 3D witches on Friday.
Today we were talking about our journey to school and what we see on the way. We then used Google Street view to track some children's journey. You can have a go at home too. Click on the link https://www.instantstreetview.com/ to view. Type in your address to use.
Today we listened to a piece of music called Danse Macabre by Saint-Saëns. At the beginning of the music we heard bells. We heard 12 bells so it was 12 o'clock. We heard jerky music played by the violin and smooth music. We guessed what type of Halloween people might be dancing to this music. Some of us thought it was zombies, others thought witches and some of us thought it was skeletons. Have a look at this video to see. Today we started adding doubles. We looked at these two videos to help us learn them. We then worked in pairs to double the spots on the butterfly.
Here is our video of our trip to the woods. Enjoy.
Belleek Woods Walk 2015 from Culleens NS on Vimeo. We had a great day in Belleek Woods today. We met Niamh Hennessy from Coillte and Cyril Collins from Ballina. Niamh showed us the different types of trees in Belleek Woods and Cyril showed us the squirrel feeding box. Some of us saw a squirrel at the top of a tree. We saw a squirrel's home which is called a drey. We also planted some trees. When we got back from the classroom, Niamh Hennessy gave us a Coillte goody bag with a pen and pecil. We also got some trees for our school. Thank you Coillte. Here are some pictures from today. We will get a video up later. The Red SquirrelWe only have red squirrels in Belleek. The red squirrel has soft fur. It is light brown. His tail is as long as his body. It keeps him warm and helps him jump from tree to tree. The squirrels' home is called a drey. He makes his drey in the top of a tall tree. It is made of twigs, moss and leaves. The baby squirrels are born in spring. In autumn the squirrel gathers nuts and hides them. Sometimes he forgets where he has hidden the nuts. The squirrel sleeps for most of the winter. Sometimes he wakes up to eat. Have a look at these videos to learn more about the red squirrel. Shutterbugs from RTE JuniorShutterbugs is a programme on RTE Junior which combines wildlife, wild places, photography and adventure! You can read some Shutterbug facts from their page - Shutterbug Facts The Crete Boom and Belleek WoodsWe could see the Crete Boom ship on the Moy today. Here is a video of the inside of the ship taken by a drone. You can also see Belleek Woods and Belleek Castle.
Here is a video from last years walk. Let's hope the weather is good.
