Today 1st class received badges and a certificate for pledging that they would become "Seatbelt Sheriffs" and to remind people to put on their seatbelts when they are in the car or on a bus.
2nd class took the pledge to wear high visibility gear (jackets, armbands or belts) when walking or cycling and to remind their families and friends to do the same. They got a certificate and an armband. Be safe, be seen. 2nd class also became "Seatbelt Sheriffs" last year so they still need to remind people about their seatbelts. Well done 1st and 2nd class. Keep up the good work and flash that badge! You can learn more about Seatbelt Sheriff and Hi Glow Silver by clicking on the link: www.seatbeltsheriff.ie/index.html. Today we all got a talk from Ann from The Road Safety Authority (RSA) on taking care on the roads. We learned the Safe Cross Code song, the stay safe on your bicycle song - The Bike Safety Boogie, the importance of wearing a hi-visibility jacket and we learned to always wear our seat belts in the car or on the bus. We all got a ruler with the Seat Belt Sheriff on it too. You can also learn more about The Seatbelt Sheriff by clicking on the link: http://www.seatbeltsheriff.ie/funstuff.html

Today we learned what it is to be in a bully-free-zone. Say No! to BulliesToday we looked at this commercial for helping to end bullying. We are really enjoying food dudes in school. So far we have tasted:
Today we were talking and learning about the importance of kindness as part of our anti-bulling campaign. We looked at some kindness videos and played a kindness board game. We learned that a simple act of kindness creates an endless ripple. What can you do to show kindness? You could smile, offer to help, share your colours, say thank you, lend your pencil. Being kind costs nothing. Remember if you want a friend you must be a friend. Kindness Rhyme for KidsToday we looked at this video and teacher asked us questions about it after. The green robot said that kindness is what we all should try for. We should share kindness and help others to learn it too. Today we listened to this song called "What I Am". We then listened to another song called "Being Me". We are all special and unique in God's eyes. We then brainstormed lots of words to describe us e.g. I am friendly, I am caring, I am gentle, I am helpful. After we did our "I am" mapping page in our SALF scrapbooks. We were proud to share these with the class. Today we had a visitor to our school - Margaret O'Malley from the HSE. She talked to us about the importance of brushing our teeth in the morning and evening. We should use a pea sized amount of tooth paste on our toothbrush. We also learned that the best drinks for our teeth are milk and water. There is alot of hidden sugar in food which causes plaque to form on our teeth so choose foods and drinks wisely.
