We are working on report writing in 1st Class. We brainstormed what happens in each season and put together an oral report. We hope you enjoy it.
Friday 15th of September was International Dot Day. We made some lovely dot prints. We also listened to the story called "The Dot" by Peter H Reynolds. Teacher then gave us a picture of a dot. We used an app called "Quiver" and scanned in the QR code on the school iPads. This allowed us to bring our dot to life - from a 2D version to a 3D version. Our dots were so cool. We learned how to "AirDrop" our creation to teacher's iPad. We also worked on our fine motor skills by creating a dotty picture using stickers. We used dot pens to create lovely dotty pictures. Our entrance area was a sea of dots. 1st Class are working really hard on their maths concepts. We are learning to make number bonds to ten using our tens frames, adding with 0, number problems, adding two and three numbers, estimating the amount of marbles in the jar.
1st Class are the lucky class in the school to start gymnastics lessons! We will have classes on a Wednesday for 5 weeks in Nadia Gym.
We worked hard on our money last month - calculating change from €1 and €2, converting money from euro to cent and cent to euro. exchanging money for less coins. We used Maths Skill Builder App to practice lots of maths skills and played the money game on the iPads in another station - https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/toy-shop-money/eur
You can play this game at home too. Just make sure to click on European flag to play the game in Euro. We had a lovely day on our class tour to Eagle's Flying and then on to Funny Bones. The weather was roasting!
We are working hard in 2nd class on procedural writing. Procedural writing is simply any text that provides instructions in a simple, step-by-step format. Here are some procedures we followed: Planting a SeedWe followed instructions on how to plant seeds. We also wrote this procedure. Some of the different seeds we planted were salad leaves, cress, peas and sunflowers. Our gardeners have the job to water them everyday. Thank you to Mr Byrne who kindly allowed us to use his window sills to place the plants - We have no window sills in the prefab - I CAN NOT WAIT FOR WINDOW SILLS IN THE NEW SCHOOL AMONG OTHER THINGS.... Frozen Banana LolliesWe read about this in our reader and then made them. Some of us didn't like the natural yogurt and decided if we made them again at home, we would skip the yogurt part and just add chocolate and freeze. Fairy Cakes/Queen CakesWe read about this recipe in our reader and made them. These were lovely. We added some butter cream icing on top with sprinkles.
We had our Lá Glas (Green Day) on Thursday 17th of March. Also check out Larry the Leprechaun and some pot of gold spirals painted in rainbow colours. Also be sure to check out our video from Seachtain na Gaeilge. All of 1st and 2nd class teamed up to play and sing Beidh Aonach Amárach.
The children made some lovely jars with ten things the love about their Mum/Mummy/Mammy/Mom/Amma for Mother's Day. Check out your Seesaw journal for a photo on your own.
Thank you to Garda Kelly for delivering the Garda Schools Programme for Internet Safety to 2nd, 3rd and 4th class.
The Be Kind Online, developed in partnership with Webwise is designed to enable pupils to understand what cyberbullying is, how it can hurt someone and how it can be prevented. The lessons in this pack promote respectful communication online and aim to foster a sense of care and respect for others online.
